This recipe has now become one of India’s most popular forms of tea, among other varieties such as green tea and herbal tea.
Preparation Time : 2 minutes
Boiling Time : 10 minutes
Serves : 4 servings (4 cups)
Ingredients :
1 cup water (approx. 100 ml)
2 teaspoons tea (chai patti)
2 teaspoons sugar
2 cups boiled milk (300 ml)
1 cardamom crushed
1-2 ginger piece
black pepper (as per taste)
1/2 cinnamon stick
1 clove
Directions :
1. Crush cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper and clove using mortar and pestle or grinder to a medium coarse powder. You can also use ½ teaspoon Tea Masala instead of using this crushed powder.
2. Boil water, tea, grated ginger, crushed masala powder and sugar over medium flame in a pan for 3-4 minutes.
3. Add milk and boil for 5-6 minutes or until the bubble starts to rise.
4. You will notice the change in color of the tea from milky shade to brown shade when it is ready.
5. Turn off flame and strain masala chai through tea strainer in cups.
Tips and Variations :
1. If you like a strong tea, then add more tea and boil it for longer duration.
Taste : Sweet with aroma of spices
Serving Ideas : Serve it with biscuit or dry snacks. It is good healthy drink during any time of the day.
